Should I even bother applying for college financial aid?

I was going to apply for financial aid and fill out my FAFSA profile and all that but I missed the deadline for one of my schools. However, my dad told me not to even bother filling it out. He said that since he makes a really really good salary, I’d probably not get anything.

Should I even bother or should I look for scholarships? Thanks.

You SHOULD apply for financial aid and look for scholarship, even if your dad makes good money, he probably wants of keep some in his pocket.
Trust me, more money you get the better off you are.

  1. Fill it out, something is better than nothing. Just because you missed the deadline doesn’t mean you won’t get aid. It just means you *might* not get as much as if you had applied on time. And remember you only send the FAFSA to the school you’re going to. Sending it to more than one can throw up red flags and delay your aid.

  2. Submit it.
My dad also makes a lot, and we thought I would not get anything.
I didn’t apply and missed the deadline for the fall semester, and I didn’t get anything, and in the Spring I applied and got the aid.

Just apply and see what happens, you don’t loose anything.

  4. You should still fill it out. Even merit-based scholarships sometimes require a FAFSA on file. Also, you will always qualify for loan money. If, half-way through the semester (or the second semester) you have an emergency you can decide to accept a loan if needed. It’s a lot more difficult to do that without a FAFSA already on file.
