Where do student grants come from?

I would like to know if anyone knows who pays for them? is it donated money or do taxpayers pay them?

Pretty much what was mentioned above. It primarily comes from the taxes taken out of our paychecks.

Although an interesting sidenote, in the end we all benefit from these grants both economically and socially. The reason why the government is so eager to give these grants to low EFC students (who come from families that make very little money and/or are on welfare, medicare, food stamps, etc) is because once these students graduate from school, chances are they are going to be making some good money. That good money will in turn put them in higher tax bracket, so now the government, for making a small "investment" on the student, will make a good amount of taxes from the graduate and their new high-paying career for the rest of the graduate’s working life. This in turn will lead to more taxes for roads, schools, city maintenance, etc. Great concept huh.

Maybe you should’ve thought of this 18 years ago when she was born. Great planning. I bet you drive a gas guzzler, though.

is their a government fund that pays back for college loans if you go to college and then enlist?

like if you finish all your college, and then enlist, do they help you pay your existing student loans? or are you just S*** out of luck and have to pay them back on your own?

In 1996, after a few years of college, I enlisted in the Army. I can’t remember what the program was called, but while I was still in the inprocessing phase, I was asked if I wanted the G.I. Bill or if I want to pay off my college loans. It was one or the other but I did have an option. I opted for the G.I Bill and paid of my loans in three years (could have deferred them). Since it is another incentive to join the Army I am sure it is still offered.

I am interested in setting up a scholarship fund…?

Can I set up a non-profit organization aimed at helping low-income, international students fund their university education and offer doners a tax deduction or would all donations have to be just that…good will donations. The latter seems a little harder to come by…

It may be worth getting in contact with specific higher education institutions and see if you could do it through one of them. They will have more experience in these areas and should be able to offer advice if nothing else =}

Can your college financial aid take over apartment rent during school?

My boyfriend is moving into my apartment this month and will be put on the lease as responsible for 1/2 the monthly rent. He is planning on starting college in June, at which point he won’t be able to pay the $350 a month. Is it possible for his school to work his rent into his school loans? If it matters, he is going to be attending Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.

colleges.mywebcommunity.org – it has detailed info how to apply for financial aid and scholarships to get more cash.

if someone gets dishonorable discharge in the army, can they still be eligible for college money?

This person got dishonorable discharge, he’s trying to go to college now and people are telling him he cant but someone else is telling him that he can go to the base to see if he can get free money for college. Someone that knows a lot about military and their rules please write me back. It will help a lot.

no he can not get help from the military.

Is it doable to pay for college just on loans themselves?

Here’s the deal…my bf’s mom wants him to go to the college she wants him to go and won’t let him go where he wants to go. He wants to move out and go where he wants. Is it very possible to do this by using college loans only, while attending full time with a part time job? He fears his mom will enroll him in the college of her choice, but he intends to enroll in the college of his choice, what is there to do?

It depends on on the lifestyle he wants to live when he graduates. If he wants to attend a private school, he could have nearly $100,000 or more in student loans between the tuition, textbooks, and room and board. He needs to start applying like crazy for scholarships starting now besides filling out the FAFSA.ed.gov and hope for some grants. Also search Google.com and Yahoo.com for scholarships based on his potential college major. With the interest rates rising, it could make it pretty hard to live on a decent salary and student loans. There are families who used student loans in college not able to save for their child’s college education. The idea to work a part time job to help with expenses is good, but wages tend to be very low in a college town due to the number of college students and jobs available.

Can a caucasion get a scholarship from the African American college fund?

Wonder as a white male, if I went there and asked for some funding what would they say? Or would they denie me? Would doing that be racist?

Don’t do that.

What is the best place to get student loans and what grants am I eligible for?

I am 25 and I got a general discharge from the AF. I am not eligible for a pell grant which makes me ineligible for other grants also. So first question I want to ask if anyone knows about any other grants or free money for school. And then the second is where would be the best place to get a student loan from. I am going to school online at baker college and plan on going fulltime. thank you

try citibank… almost all of my friends loans approved though i never tried for one…

Would our tax dollars be spent more wisely if they based college financial aid on your gpa every year?

I know at least a dozen kids who get thousands of dollars in grants and subsidized loans only to keep a C average. I also know dozens of kids who are getting straight A’s while working without getting a dime of financial aid.

Why should we invest in mediocrity?
NO appeals to emotion please. There are many sad stories out there but it doesn’t mean we need to pay for it!

No. i get alot of financial aid. my gpa isnt so great because i have to work 35 hours a week to support myself. i know people who dont work one damn bit and have lower gpas then i do. it honestly depends on the person. and you can just judge a whole group of people based off of nothing. i could take a ton of EASY classes and have a perfect gpa. while people in medicine and math and engineering kill themselves to succeed and have lower gpas and still come out making alot of money. it depends on the ease of the major what your gpa is, how much time you have to put towards it and so forth. gettig straight A’s doesnt mean you are smart or a good student. ever heard of cheating????
